QUEENS COUNTY

The province's centrally-located and most populated county, Queens County, is worth taking a self driving tour of. The county features flat fields, rolling hills and photogenic coastlines. Prince Edward Island National Park offers wide beaches, which are great for sun tanning and swimming during the months of July and August. In the evening, take a romantic stroll down to the edge of the deep blue water and watch a captivating island sunset.

The province's capital city, Charlottetown, is located in Queens County, along with the charming towns of Cornwall and Stratford. The community of Cavendish, made famous by Anne of Green Gables author Lucy Maud Montgomery, is also located here and is a popular destination for romance. Couples can visit the Green Gables House and hold hands as they walk down the romantically titled “Lover's Lane.” Finish the day with a candlelit dinner at one of Charlottetown's many inviting restaurants.

Bed of Roses By The Sea
Aptly named for its rose garden, which is only steps from the seashore, Bed of Roses By the Sea is a waterfront retreat in the neighbourhood of Brighton in Charlottetown. The Royal Suite and the Sunset Glory room both boast stunning waterfront views, while the Sunrise Suite looks out over the front garden. The Royal Suite is a favourite among honeymooners, with its ocean view and 1.8-m (6-ft) whirlpool Jacuzzi.

Shipwright Inn
The Shipwright Inn, located in Charlottetown, is an elegant Victorian home used as a bed and breakfast. The classic structure was built in the 1860s by Charlottetown shipbuilder James Phillips. The era of shipbuilding on the island is reflected in the inn's nautical theme, although each room has its own style and features all amenities. In the morning enjoy a breakfast beneath the dining room chandelier, followed by a browse through the period antiques and artwork positioned around the house.

Holland Grove House
The cozy Holland Grove House is set in an 1850s home in Charlottetown. Couples can snuggle up in a king sized bed in one of the 14 appointed guest rooms furnished with Victorian antiques. On the west side of the island is Prince County, which offers a quieter pace of life than Queens County. Since the area is more rural in comparison to the eastern side of the province, visitors can expect to see countryside dominated by world famous Prince Edward Island potato farms. Although the county has a lot of farmland, there are also many beaches.

The city of Summerside has a city feel but a laid back atmosphere. Enjoy the best of both worlds with great beaches and first rate shops and restaurants. Venture out on the walking and bike paths of Confederation Trail, which goes through several picture perfect communities, including O'Leary. Part of the enchantment of the island is looking out over the vast ocean from the province's red cliffs. Off the shore of North Cape is Elephant Rock, a rock that bares a resemblance to the shape of an elephant. Take in a sunset from North Cape's nearby cliffs, marvel at Elephant Rock and watch the waves hit the shore.

West Point Lighthouse Inn
The West Point Lighthouse, near O'Leary, is an active lighthouse as well as an inn. The most popular room is the Tower Room, which is the only guest room in the original 1875 structure. The Tower Room is on the second floor of the lighthouse and boasts a large bathroom with a whirlpool tub and shower. Antiques and quilts decorate each of the rooms creating an inviting and cozy atmosphere.

KINGS COUNTY

Although Kings County is the smallest of the province's three counties, it has just as much breathtaking scenery to offer. Forests, vibrant fishing communities and lighthouses grace the landscape, and the pretty beaches along the Gulf of St. Lawrence are likely to have less tourists. No visit to Prince Edward Island would be complete without a lobster supper. Cardigan Lobster Suppers offers a five course fresh market lobster dinner overlooking the Cardigan marina. A relaxing evening could include a glass of wine at the Rossignol Estate Winery located in Little Sands, which has a wide selection of both grape and fruit wines.

Kings County encompasses the towns of Georgetown, Montague and Souris. The harbour in Montague is full of aquatic life. Harbour cruises are available and seals are frequently spotted during the trip. Couples have a choice of many restaurants throughout the county in which to enjoy a meal out together. Many of the shops in the towns and villages feature local merchandise, such as crafts and paintings, which are a way to remember the island and special moments shared there.
