    Port-la-Joye–Fort Amherst National Historic Site

    A short twenty minute drive from Charlottetown, this historic site is the first permanent settlement on Prince Edward Island. The French orignially occupied this area which was subsequently captured by the British in 1758. Remnants of the earthworks of the British fort are still evident. Interpretive events are held regularly during the peak summer months. Bilingual guides are available to explain the sites history. Open daily from Victoria Day until Labour Day. A site admission is charged.

    Tignish Cultural Centre
    The Tignish Cultural Centre is home to an Interpretive Centre, Visitor Information Centre, library and PEI government offices. The interpretive centre's displays tell the 200 year history of Tignish from the first Irish & Acadian settlers to the events of today.

    Lucy Maud Montgomery Birthplace
    In 1874 Lucy Maud Montgomery was born in this modest home that overlooks New London Harbour. There is plenty of memorabilia on display which is enhanced by the Victorian furniture. You will see Montgomery's wedding dress and her personal scrapbooks. Open May 10 to mid-October.

    Atlantic Wind Test Site
    Established in 1980, the The Atlantic Wind Test Site (AWTS) is a wind farm providing electricity to the Maritimes and information on the development of wind energy systems and equiptment. There is a visitor centre with displays and wind power demonstrations for guests to the site, which is open between June and September.

    The Farmers Bank of Rustico Museum
    Canada's first credit union was formed by priest Georges-Antoine Belcourt in the mid 1800's, which became the Farmer's Bank- the smallest ever Canadian bank. The bank's first home, in a South Rustico 1864 brownstone building, is now home to a museum and momument to Belcourt. Open June to September.

    Elmira Railway Museum

    A Provincial Heritage Site, this museum in a restored train station that recalls the history of the railway on PEI. There is a recreated stationmasters office and ladies waiting room. The Confederation Trail, a hiking route, Begins in Elmira and follows the old railway line. Open daily from mid-June to Labour Day.

    Fanning School at Cabot Beach
    A Provincial Heritage Site, the schoolhouse was named after Governor Fanning and was built in 1794. This schoolhouse was very unique at the time because it was a two-storey building. People were still being taught in the schoolhouse in 1969; and, in 1993, it was moved to Cabot Beach day-use area and was restored. Open daily from mid-June to mid-September

    Heritage Lane
    Take a walk back in time at Heritage Lane. Visit the Heritage Chapel,which was built in 1879, a log barn featuring farm implements from the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Little Red Schoolhouse, which was in use from 1900 to 1972, and O'Leary's first offical telephone office. Heritage Lane is located at the site of the O'Leary Potato Museum. Open May 15 to October 15.

    Founder's Hall- Canada's Birthplace Pavillion

    Built on the dock-side arrival point for members of the Charlottetown Conference that lead to confederation, Founder's Hall tells the story of Canada. A multimedia interactive self-guided tour allows visitors to learn about Canada's history, from the confederation conference of 1864 to the creation of Nunavut in 1999. Open mdi-May to mid-October.

    Dalvay by the Sea

    Built in 1895, Dalvay by the Sea has a long and colourful history. In contemporary times this mansion has been converted into a 26 guest room inn furnished in period antiques. In recent times this luxurious hotel has been used for the setting of the popular television show "Road to Avonlea" and the light-hearted cinema production of Lucy Maude Montgomery's "Anne of Green Gables".

    North Cape Interpretive Centre & Aquarium

    Green Gables House

    This Victorian style house was built in the mid 1800s and once housed the ancestors of Lucy Maude Montgomery. The house and farm were the inspiration for the setting of the famous Anne of Green Gables. The grounds include winding trails and interpretive programs are offered daily in the summer. Open daily from May 1 to October 31.

    Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead

    This restored 140 acre homestead dates back to 1912. It is used as a local community centre with many arts oriented events. In the grounds there is bird watching, and nature trails with an emphasis on botany. There is a fully licensed restaurant.

    Brighton Compound
    Prince Edward Island's history of land struggles is commemorated at this active armed forces training base. The Brighton Powder Magazine was built in 1866, while there is also a monument to the uprisings of this time.

    Orwell Corner Historic Site

    A Provincial Heritage Site, Orwell Corner Historic Village opened in July of 1973. The small crossroads community was founded in the early nineteenth century by Scots that arrived on the Island with the Glenaladale Settlers brought out by Captain John MacDonald, as well as families that came from the Isle of Skye, County Monaghan in Ireland and United Empire Loyalists. Visit the blacksmith's shop, schoolhouse, general store, period houses and farm buildings. Open mid May to mid October.

    Province House National Historic Site & Provincial Legislative Building
    The Charlottetown Conference on confederation was held here in 1864, leading to Charlottetown being known as the "Birthplace of Confederation". Home to the P.E.I. Provincial Legislature since its building. Restored to its 19th century glory, Province House sees conference reinactments during the summers. There are also video and interpretive presentations for visitors year round.

    Lucy Maud Montgomery's Cavendish National Historic Site
    These beautiful grounds in tranquil rural surroundings are the site of the home where Montgomery lived from 1876-1911. Here she was raised by her grandparents, and wrote Anne of Green Gables. There is a bookstore and museum on the site. This land is still maintained and lived on by descendents of Montgomery.

    Basin Head Fisheries Museum
    A Provincial Heritage Site, this museum is dedicated to the island's inshore fishery and displays included boats, fishing gear and a good selection of photographs.     Skinner's Pond Schoolhouse
    This is the oldest original schoolhouse on P.E.I. There are several displays about the school's history and also one about legendary Canadian singer Stompin' Tom Connors who was a student here. A gift shop with unique P.E.I. souviners is also at the schoolhouse.

    Roma at Three Rivers

    Once a trading fort and fishery which controlled much of the general area (between 1730 and 1745), this heritage park relives the glory of Roma at Three Rivers with reinactments, guided tours & more. Conferences, events and meetings can also be held in the replica 1730's buildings.
