Welcome to Montague!
Seated on top of the scenic
Montague
River is one of
Prince Edward Island's
largest towns, the community of Montague. The Montague River bisects the town
from east to west, which makes Montague a thriving port. The town and river's
name is in honour of either George Brudenell, Fourth Earl of Cardigan and Duke
of Montague; John Montague, Third Earl of Sandwich; or Montague Wilmot, Governor
of Nova Scotia. Montague is a busy town, because it is the commercial centre for
surrounding communities in Kings County. The town is located 46 km (29 mi) east
of the province's capital city,
Charlottetown.
During a trip to Montague make sure to go on a boat tour to see harbour seals.
Tour operators in the region offer sightseeing tours of the harbour and of the river,
where visitors can catch glimpses of seals, birds and other water critters. Learn
about Montague's local history through displays at the
Garden
of the Gulf Museum. Finish the day off island style with a fresh and delicious
seafood meal at one of the town's many
restaurants.
